Women’s safety is Everything
Safer Transport Northumbria tackles underreporting to make transport safer and more inclusive for women, girls and marginalised groups.

Led by PCC Kim McGuinness, Rape Crisis Tyneside & Northumberland and Northumbria Police, Everything created the campaign concept for the public facing elements including brand identity, advertising and digital media.

In Northumbria, there were 3,269 stranger attacks against women and girls in public places between April 2018 and March 2021. Underreporting is a major concern as highlighted in the national Sexual Harassment/Discrimination public consultation (2018) where 15% of women had experienced unwanted sexual behaviour while on London public transport and 90% had not reported it to the police.

We created a hard hitting campaign that urged passengers on buses and the Metro to download the new Safer Transport Northumbria app, report any incidents of sexual harassment, find access to support and learn how to safely intervene as a bystander.
